Battle of Buckland Mills Video Presentation

The Battle of Buckland Mills was the final chapter of the 11-day Bristoe Campaign in October 1863. Confederate forces under General JEB Stuart routed General Judson Kilpatrick’s Union brigades in the 16-hour cavalry fight on the roads and fields around Buckland. The battle became fondly known in the Confederate Cavalry as the “Buckland Races.” The Buckland Love Museum presented this description of the battle in its 155th anniversary observance at the museum on October 19, 2018. The 25-minute video is based on Stephen Fonzo’s research, A Documentary And Landscape Analysis Of The Buckland Mills Battlefield, which draws on the official records of the Civil War, archaeological research for the Buckland Preservation Society, and other primary sources.
